Brief about the Book

Doodlehair

"Scribble Hair" is a children's book that sensitively and originally explores the theme of being different. Through the main character Ellie, a little girl with curly, black hair, the book conveys what it's like to stand out in a world where smooth, light hair strands dominate. With events like the Lucia celebration and ski days as a backdrop, the book addresses the challenges Ellie faces in kindergarten and how she navigates the reactions and comments she receives from the other children. Marta has drawn inspiration from her own childhood experiences, and with "Scribble Hair," she aims to contribute to increased diversity in children's books and provide children with tools to handle feelings of being different and strengthen their own self-esteem.
About the author

Marta Mboka Tveit

Marta is a 34-year-old Ph.D. research fellow in cultural studies at the University of Oslo, who is making her debut as a children's book author this fall with "Krussedullehår". With a childhood that spans across multiple continents, including Zambia, Pakistan, South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Tanzania, she has been deeply influenced by a diversity of cultures, which is reflected in both her academic and creative work.

Marta has previously been a columnist for Klassekampen, where she shared her perspectives on culture and society. Additionally, she has experience as a host and scriptwriter for NRK's children's TV show "Klar Ferdig Gå", a role that further sparked her interest in children's culture. Through "Krussedullehår", Marta channels her personal experiences with being different and creates a story that both reflects and supports children's realities and challenges.
